"Stanley 0002"

The concept of reincarnation is something that has been and continues to be strongly debated, but I believe it is undoubtable that rebirth is a constant process that occurs at every moment. Every time we learn something new, look at something from a different perspective, or live through a new experience, the concept of our ‘self’ changes. Sometimes this rebirth can completely change the person that we thought we were, especially if we loosen the grip of our ego and welcome the change. Occasionally we create a piece that we have a clear idea of, but more often than not our ideas change throughout the creation process. Most of our pieces are named after they have been completed, but they always have a working title while we are making them. Our Stanley pieces get their name from the middle name of an important family member. We chose to use his middle name since our first names are often the most defining characteristic of what we consider to be ‘us’. We are typically vague regarding our inspirations, preferring to let you, the beholder, make your own judgements; however, we wanted to share that our Stanley pieces are meant to represent one of these moments of rebirth and dissolution of the ego. We hope that, whether or not you see our intention, our Stanley pieces remind you to embrace the changes that your experiences inflict, and that there is no such thing as an unchanging, permanent self.

This textured wood wall clock is uniquely carved to provide the illusion of melting or degrading.  The top portion of the piece is left raw and then bottom portion is burned to a char. The entire piece is finished with a satin protective coating. This piece features black serpentine hands with a non-ticking black second hand.
