Our Johnny clocks get their name from an uncle that I never got the chance to meet. Based on the stories I’ve heard, he lived a life that was wild, inspirational, and generally pretty crazy. Although it’s pretty common for these kinds of stories to be exaggerated, many different witnesses have pretty convincingly corroborated those about my uncle, and a few of the stories have even been documented in newspapers and books. I’m not one to bore people by telling them about my dreams, but basically, I had a dream one night that my uncle wanted me to make a white clock, so I did and named it after him. The ‘Pewter’ suffix is much more literal as these pieces feature small pewter colored strips of split wood interspersed with the white, and I just thought that ‘Johnny Pewter’ sounded kinda cool; like an old west gunfighter or something.
This split wood pendulum clock features a cutout in the face of the piece that exposes a partially hidden swinging pendulum. This piece has a horizontal strip layout on the clock face with a contrasting vertical strip layout on the face of the pendulum. Most of the split wood is painted white with a few pewter colored pieces being interspersed, and finished with a satin protective coating. This piece features black baton clock hands that provide a strong contrast against the mostly white face of the piece.
