Fire is pretty amazing. It can keep us warm and cozy when there is a chill in the air, it can cook us delicious meals, and it can fill our homes with relaxing scents when we light a candle after a long day. Fire is so readily available in the modern world; it’s easy to take it for granted. The Amoukar clocks were inspired by the history of humanity’s use of this once magical element. Although we definitely don’t condone all of the namesake’s behavior, I find inspiration in the hope, and education of the ignorant that it represents as necessary for the advancement of civilization.

This shou sugi ban wood pendulum clock features a cutout in the face of the piece that exposes a partially hidden swinging pendulum. This piece has vertical wood grain on the clock face with an uneven cutout that loosely follows the wood grain around a removed knot exposing the knotted pendulum. The shou sugi ban wood is dyed in a swirling blend of red, orange, and yellow colors mimicking the flames of a fire and finished with a semi-gloss protective coating. This piece also features a pillow shaped face and silver colored baton clock hands.

Clock Face: Fire colored (an uneven swirling blend of red, orange, and yellow) vertical grain shou sugi ban wood with a semi-gloss protective finish

Clock Sides and Back: Fire colored shou sugi ban with a semi-gloss protective finish. The top, bottom, and sides of the back are offset from the face approximately 0.5” giving the face a slightly protruding look when displayed

Clock Hands: Silver colored batons (straight and rectangular)

Pendulum Face: Fire colored (an uneven swirling blend of red, orange, and yellow) vertical grain shou sugi ban wood featuring a large knot with a semi-gloss protective finish

Features: Uneven shaped cutout that loosely follows the wood grain and exposes the pendulum, a pillow shaped face, dampeners to minimize the sound of the pendulum
